Marina Abramović’s lecture “Performance. Past. Present. Future.”

One of the most spectacular events of Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 for the loyal fans of performance art is the public lecture by Marina Abramović “Performance. Past. Present. The Future.” on 31 March 2022 in Zalgirio Arena.

Marina Abramović is one of the most renowned contemporary artists and a true star of performance art. Her boldness, extreme ideas and uncompromising works have helped performance art to earn its rightful place in the contemporary art world. Marina Abramović consistently breaks down the walls between audience and artist. She emphasises the artist’s presence as an integral part of the work, and in her work she strives for clarity of consciousness, seeking enlightenment and personal change.

In this public lecture, Marina Abramović will give an overview of the history of performance art: she will define what performance art is, consider its origins and development – where it is today and what its future holds.

The meeting is organised on the occasion of the presentation of Marina Abramović’s exhibition “Memory of Being”. The exhibition will be on view at the Kaunas Picture Gallery of the National M. K. Čiurlionis Museum (K. Donelaičio str. 16, Kaunas) from 30 March to 31 July 2022.
