ZEMAITUKAI

The dreams of “Žemaitukai” are coming true: they will hold a concert in the biggest arena in Lithuania

The wave of popularity of “Žemaitukai” continues to roll through Lithuania. Group members Linas and Ovidijus announce that they are taking on the most ambitious project of their career so far – on February 21, they will hold a concert in the largest event space in the country, the “Žalgirio” arena in Kaunas.

In August, the duo held their biggest summer concert in a packed concert hall in Palanga, and they will soon accompany the warm one with another impressive performance in Chaim Frenkel’s villa park in Šiauliai on August 30. However, these stages are not comparable to the biggest Lithuanian arena, which “Žemaitukai” calls the most ambitious project of their career so far.

Kaunas “Žalgirio” arena band has already performed and remembered this experience as if it happened yesterday. At the music awards held in January, M.A.M.A. the duo was nominated for the biggest traditional pop music group of the year, and on this occasion they received an invitation to perform several songs.

“The performance in Kaunas really stuck with us. I’m never as nervous before a concert as I was then. I didn’t understand what was happening to my body. I remember how Justinas Jankevičius (author post – host of the event) came and, just before we went on stage, he said: “Men, you’re fed up, what are you so excited about?” Calm down, finally start to believe in yourself, go on stage and have a blast”, Linas remembers the experience in the biggest arena in the country.

“We have been dreaming about our concert at the “Zalgirio” arena for a long time, but until recently, it seemed like something far away. However, the increase from other artists led to the fact that it is time to work on bigger projects, so we are taking the bull by the horns. Kaunas is the heart of Lithuania, the country’s biggest concert is taking place, it is convenient for everyone to come here, so we believe that we will see a lot of people here. It’s hard to believe, but our dream is slowly becoming a reality,” admits Ovidijus.

Linas and Ovidijus, who met during their studies and became best friends, have been steadily climbing towards the peak of popularity for more than a decade, but the group has gained the most recognition in the last few years, and the main factor of success has become the author’s work.

Last year, “Žemaitukai” released the fifteen-song album “If the world belonged to me”, which was hugely popular and received hundreds of thousands of listens on music platforms, and since then presented six more tracks.

“For many years we played in cafes and at weddings performing other people’s music, but we realized that without our original songs we cannot take the next step towards our dreams. We started creating ourselves, experimenting and it worked. It’s an unreal feeling when people love you for who you are, when they support your work and can identify with it,” Ovidijus does not hide his joy.

Once you start creating, it’s hard to stop. The men admit that now they write even more new songs than they need, so they have given many of them to other groups performing in a similar style.

“At our place, I write the songs,” says Linas, “I tried to find helpers, but then my thoughts get mixed up, so it’s better to be alone. We also have an excellent producer, Paulių Jasiūnas, whom we trust 150 percent. Ovid has always told me that “I am a fan of your work”, so I am happy about that. He gets angry that I give away some good song, some good song to others, and he reminds me to this day that we could have done one or another song”, laughs Linas.

Tomas Inčikas, the head of the company Seven Live, which organizes Žemaitukai concerts in Palanga, Šiauliai and Kaunas, does not hide his admiration for the group members: “Lina and Ovidijus are very hardworking, persistent and talented, so it was only a matter of time when they would take the big stages. We are happy to contribute and watch their dreams come true up close.”

The most ambitious performance of Žemaitukai career will take place on February 21, 2025 in Kaunas’ Žalgirio Arena. Ticket sales will start on September 4 at the platform “Bilietai.lt”.
