The most promising prospects of European basketball are gathering in the Žalgirio arena on January 15-17. The capital of Lithuanian basketball is welcoming the 14th edition of Euroleague Basketball adidas Next Generation Junior Tournament. For the fourth time one of four qualification tournaments will be organized by BC Žalgiris Kaunas.
Eight teams from seven countries will strive for the opportunity to seal the ticket to Berlin to compete against the best under-18 teams. The main adidas Next Generation Junior Tournament will be held in parallel with the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four on May 12-15.
Junior teams from all across the Europe gathered in Kaunas also in 2012, 2014 and 2015. Back then Žalgiris Kaunas won the tournaments behind MVPs Tomas Dimša, Martynas Varnas and Martynas Echodas. This time the hosts will compete in Group A with Fenerbahce Istanbul of Turkey, Cibona Zagreb of Croatia and Porsche Basketball Academy Ludwigsburg of Germany. While Group B will see battles between Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius of Lithuania, USK Future Stars of the Czech Republic, INSEP Paris of France INSEP Paris of France and VEF Riga of Latvia.
Group games will be played on January 15th and 16th. On Sunday, January 17th, the second placed teams in the groups will meet in a game for the third place and the group winners will face each other in the final.
