The Contemporary Myth of Kaunas Trilogy is a journey through three major events of the European Capital of Culture programme, observing the city’s transformation from a temporary to a contemporary capital. On this journey, concerts, exhibitions, performances and stories have accompanied Kaunas citizens and international audiences, inviting, educating, nurturing and reintroducing Kaunas back into a European and global cultural context. The trilogy was launched with “The Confusion” which shattered the old mindset; the city welcomed spring with “The Confluence”, the most breathtaking weekend in its history; and the European Capital of Culture’s programme will come to a close with “The Contract”.

This journey is the city’s poetic history pieced together from facts, legends, myths, and imagination. This spectacular event will offer a panorama filled with visual experiences, dance, music and theatre performances, and the city’s transformation into a contemporary capital will be crowned by the signing of a contract at the end of the event, as part of the European Capital of Culture programme’s legacy to Kaunas – its past, present, and future. Ultimately, it is Kaunas residents’ declaration of love for themselves and their city.
