International Festival Ballet and Festival Orchestra present in Lithuania a pearl of world classics – the ballet Swan Lake (a two-part ballet based on the music of P.I. Tchaikovsky), full of grace and beauty.
With new programmes of Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty coming to Europe this summer, St. The St Petersburg Festival Ballet will have a new name.
Shocked and affected by Russia’s inhuman war of aggression against Ukraine, the famous ballet is changing its name to International Festival Ballet and has invited dancers from Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, Latvia, Hungary, Canada and Germany to join the company. The ballet company itself is now based in Germany.
International Festival Ballet
With this change, the artists are making their position clear. International Festival Ballet is an international ballet that represents the understanding and possibility for art, music and dance to coexist beyond national borders. Since the beginning of the war, artists have expressed their position against Russian aggression through numerous protests before each of their performances (EuroNews report here). As a result, they are now under threat from the Russian authorities. The company, which also includes a number of Ukrainian dancers, naturally sees itself as a ballet of peace and harmony for all people.
In artistic terms, the ballet represents the classical ballet school in its purest form. Strict elegance combined with modern and 21st century influences, it is a high class dance performance, in turn complemented by beautiful costumes and exquisite sets.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s immortal ballet classic is known throughout the world and continues to fascinate audiences of all ages. Everyone knows the romantic story of Swan Lake, whose central white and black swan figures have become synonymous with the elegance of classical ballet at the highest level.
This high-level ballet is distinguished not only by its absolutely precise dance technique, but also by its coherent and consistent overall image and its elegant lightness. International Festival Ballet captivates with a perfect dance performance that takes the audience’s breath away.
