Bonnie Tyler arrives in Lithuania

Bonnie Tyler, the owner of an exceptional and husky voice, is keeping her promise to return to Zalgirio Arena!

Thanks to the concert organizer “Back To The 80’s 90’s Lietuva”, the legendary queen of rock and pop music from Wales will be supported by a Frenchman from Tunisia – F.R. David.

Rinsing vocal cords with shaving blades

UK-born Bonnie Tyler rose to fame in 1976 with the hit “Lost in Paris”. A year later, the singer underwent vocal cord surgery and had to remain silent for six weeks. In an unfortunate accident, Gaynor Hopkins (Bonnie Tyler’s real name) yelled out and lost her voice for a while. The shocked singer believed that her music career, which had just begun, was over.

But to her surprise, her new, husky voice was even more popular among the music lovers. This was evidenced by the song “It’s A Heartache”, which soon topped the charts. Soon Bonnie Tyler signs a contract with CBS and has her songs written by the multi-award-winning Jim Steinman. Their collaboration led to the album ”Faster Than the Speed of Night”, which gave the world the legendary ballad ”Total Eclipse of The Heart”, the best-selling single in almost 20 countries from Canada to Japan, the USA to France, Germany to Australia.

Inspired by the film “Nosferatu”, the composer is said to have originally recorded the song for performer Meat Loaf, but he “couldn’t handle it” whilst Bonnie Tyler exclaimed in delight when she read the lyrics of the song: “Is this for me?” The new beautiful ballad soon knocked Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” off the top of the charts!

“Faster Than the Speed of Night” was added to the Guinness Book of World Records as the first female recording to top the UK best-selling albums list.

She has been compared to Janis Joplin, Tina Turner and Rod Stewart. Asked about the secret of her distinctive voice, Bonnie Tyler, who has released more than 20 studio albums and 50 singles, many of which have topped the charts in different countries, joked that she drinks a lot of vodka and rinses her vocal cords with razor blades.

The rich and the poor, a baby and a Tunisian from France

French disco legend and singer of another superhit “Words” – F.R. David, was born in Tunisia. He started his career accompanying on bass guitar and soon became the lead singer of “Le Boots“.

Later, he embarked on a solo career, and in 1982, he rocked the music world with the superhit “Words”, which sold more than eight million copies.

The song was included on his debut album, where he released several more hits, including “Take Me Back“, “Pick Up the Phone“, “Music“, followed by “Sahara Night“, “Taxi“, “Girl“ and “I’ll Try to Love Again“.

A megahit will also be performed

The stars who will arrive in Klaipeda and Kaunas in autumn 2022 are looking forward to meeting their Lithuanian fans.

It will be easy to go back in time – all that the women have to do is wear bright red lipstick, and the men have to wear a colorful jacket.

“It’s always good to come back to a country with wonderful audience,” says global star Bonnie Tyler, who will be back on 29 October at Zalgirio Arena where she will be performing Total Eclipse of The Heart.

Isn’t she tired of singing the mega-hit that has been performed thousands of times?

“No. And this song sounded completely different when my mother died. I performed “Total Eclipse of The Heart” in Germany, just a few weeks after the death of my mother. And suddenly… I was standing on stage when the tears started rolling down my cheeks. I tried to hold it back, but I couldn’t do it. It’s an incredibly beautiful song, but in that moment I experienced it in a completely different way.”
