or the first time, one of the most prominent American jazz bands of today, Snarky Puppy, who won the prestigious Grammy statuette this year, is coming to Kaunas Jazz.

“Snarky Puppy’s concert will take place at Kaunas Žalgirio Arena on 28 April 2024.

The ever-changing line-up has been hailed as a new-age American music phenomenon.

In 2024, Snarky Puppy will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their career – that’s how long ago the band was formed by students at the University of North Texas. Founded by composer, producer and instrumentalist Michael League, the band has been known from the start as champions of fresh musical freedom.

Each recording is different, and the guiding principle of the musicians is to never repeat themselves. This, by the way, also applies in part to the line-up. The extended list of Snarky Puppy’s members includes around twenty musicians. By the way, one of the band members featured on the latest album is drummer Jamison Ross, who performed at Kaunas Jazz in 2022.

What’s more, more than 40 musicians have been featured on the band’s albums (15 of them), each one leaving his or her own mark on Snarky Puppy’s illustrious history.

In 2014, the band won its first Grammy (for Best Rhythm and Blues Performance) and today has five. Four of the band’s albums have been named Best Contemporary Instrumental Album of the Year.

The band’s most recent Grammy win came in 2023, when its album Empire Central was awarded the statue.

Even more impressively, Snarky Puppy has won the Grammy all five times it has been nominated for this award. Very few artists can boast such 100% success, which once again proves the charm and quality of the band’s music.

Interestingly, Snarky Puppy are welcomed at jazz festivals all over the world, but they do not classify their music in this genre. To be more precise, Snarky Puppy refuses to be constrained by any genre at all, even though it is owned by fans of both jazz rock and funk.
