CHRIS NORMAN – the golden voice of Smokie
Chris Norman (real name Christopher Ward Norman) was born in 1950 in Yorkshire, United Kingdom, into a family of entertainers. At the age of 12, he enrolled at Bradford School for Boys, where he met fellow future Smokie members Alan Silson and Terry Uttley.
The band’s early titles were many and varied, but its real creative success came in 1975 with the release of Smokie’s long-gestating debut album, Pass It Around, co-written with renowned producers and songwriters of the time, Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. 1978 was Smokie’s golden age, with the release of the critically acclaimed The Montreaux Album and the song Stumblin’ In by the duo of Chris Norman and Suzie Quatro, which reached the American Billboard Top 10.
Although Chris Norman left the Smokies in 1986 to pursue a solo career, his discography is truly impressive, with over 50 singles and more than 30 albums, and more than 30 million records sold worldwide. His latest work, the studio album Just a Man, will be released in December 2021.
