Hiperbole In Symphony at Zalgirio arena!

25 March Songs we grew up with will be performed in Kaunas! Here, for the first time in the history of Lithuanian music, the songs of the legendary band Hiperbole will be performed in the country’s largest Zalgirio Arena! Next year, perhaps Lithuania’s most popular band Hiperbolė will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding, and it’s finally time to pay tribute to the music worthy of the biggest arenas, and to pay tribute to the band whose songs have been with us all our lives.

This is the occasion of the great celebration concert “Hiperbole In Symphony”, where the songs of the band we all love will be heard as spectacularly as they have ever been heard before. More than 60 orchestral musicians, some of the country’s finest instrumentalists and the country’s most famous soloists will take the stage.

The event will be attended by Kaunas Symphony Orchestra and a bunch of famous Lithuanian singers – Merūnas, Inga Valinskienė, Povilas Meškėla, Ona Kolobovaitė, Vladas Kovalev, Monika Marija, Egidijus Bavikinas, Ovidijus Vyšniauskas, the younger generation – Kasparas Varanavičius and Paulius Burba (Multiks), and a very special guest – a member of the legendary band Hiperbole – Viktoras Prapras. The rhythm band will feature the real wolves of the Lithuanian scene – Tomas Varnagiris (guitar), Andrius Daugirdas (bass guitar), Mindaugas Balčiūnas (keyboards) and other top class instrumentalists and backing vocalists. The concert will feature the immortal classics of Hiperbole – the best songs from the 50th anniversary of the band’s career – “Vandens zenklai”, “Sugrizk”, “Kai nieko neturi”, “Tu grok”, “Isgalvotas gyvenimas”, “Pamirsk mane”, “As dar dainuosiu”, and many more great tracks that many of us know by heart. The event will be hosted by the charismatic Lithuanian music history guru – radio presenter and musicologist Darius Užkuraitis.

The band Hiperbole was formed in 1974 at the then Vilnius Engineering Construction Institute (now – VGTU) and played at dances. The repertoire included songs by The Beatles, Deep Purple, Nazareth, Bad Company, Uriah Heep and the band’s own compositions. Within a few years, the band had become wildly popular, but the Soviet censorship, especially after the self-immolation of Romas Kalanta, did not help the band. They could only play their music at unofficial events, depending on the government’s leniency. Musicians themselves distributed their recordings, which spread throughout Lithuania and became folk music.

In 1980, the band’s golden age began – in four years Hiperbole played more than 300 concerts, became a Philharmonic band in 1984, but in the same year, like other rock bands, was disbanded by the authorities as a threat to the communist system.

Hiperbole was subsequently reborn in 1991 and 1996, releasing four more studio albums and touring to crowds. Unfortunately, for various reasons, the band was discontinued.

So now, as the anniversary of Hiperbole approaches, it is time to properly commemorate the work of Lithuania’s rock pioneers and to express our gratitude to the band whose music has left perhaps the most vivid imprint in the history of our music and in the hearts of all Lithuanian people.
